Etymology:
Professor B. P. Beirne turned to Gaelic mythology and the legends of his native Ireland for the names of the new genera he erected in the Nepticulidae (B.P. Beirne, pers. comm,). Étaín, originally a sun-goddess, was also the name of several beautiful, noble or saintly women in legend or early history (Emmet 1991: 43)
